Marine Big 5 Safari from Cape Town

It is a must experience for all animals enthousiaste. It is true that it takes about 2h from Cape Town to dyre Island. However ride itself is an attraction when driving through beautiful landscapes and sea towns. Second, animals can't be controlled and no sightseeings can be guaranteed. But that part of the adventure. Everything was well organised and executed smoothly. Crew consisted of professional biologist and geography available for every question about the wildlife of that area. It was truly an amazing day.

The Marine Big 5 Safari was a great experience. The staff members on board were extremely nice and respectful. They helped ensure that everyone had a positive experience. The boat ride is full of scenic views and you get really great shots of the animals. You will absolutely love seal island!

We were picked up from the V&A on time by a wonderful man who whilst he pointed out wasnt a "guide" was the person who brought this trip to life through fabulous conversations and was willing to talk about Cape Town and it's history. You arrive at the centre where there is a drinks on offer - water, tea coffee etc and there are toilets (has a caffe attached and a medium Souvenir shop) and then the safety briefing. There is also some hard selling on conservation efforts (buying penguin houses for 500 R (£25) which help support the efforts of future generations of penguins, which of course I bought!). You then get life jackets and a over coat (good range of sizes!) You then take a short walk down the hill to board the boat. The trip it's self is well worth a visit, we saw bronzer sharks, penguins, common dolphins and of course the fur cape seal. We learnt a lot about the conservation efforts which for us has been really interesting. There were plenty of people on hand to ask questions! You return there is some soup and a bread roll on offer, it's ok nothing to shout home about but welcome given it was a long day and we hadn't eaten anything else. Things to know: It's a long drive from Cape Town city centre, we did have a stop half way which we had a nice coffee but bear this in mind. The same in return we didn't get home till just after 7pm, so with load shedding at the moment you need to factor this into your plans if you don't have an inverter/generator. You get to see some amazing sights on the way so take time to enjoy the long drive. Neither me or my husband suffer with sea sickness, but if you do or motion sickness definitely buy tablets. The swells are quite rough. You need to have some physical abilities especially on the top deck to stand up and walk around even when the boat has stopped as the sea can be quite rough.
